Since we have moved into our house, I have wanted to renovate our bedroom.
I'm not sure why, but the room was decorated terribly. The room had been painted with no furniture moved, so when we moved the wardrobes that had been left with the house, there was different coloured paint on the wall behind it. The skirting boards were a different colour behind where the bed had been etc.
The ceiling had woodchip wallpaper and large creases from incorrect sized panelling used. There was alot to do!
We had to rub down and plasterboard the entire room, fix the ceiling and prime the room.
We cut up the carpet and the underlay to remove it from the room. We had a radiator moved from one wall to another so the new wardrobes would fit. We cleaned and cleaned and then cleaned some more.
We brought in a painter to paint and wallpaper the room. I chose a really quirky paper. I wanted our room to feel fun, but also be in keeping with the location of the house. I searched for a long time and in the end I chose a paper with woodland creatures depicted on it. This is where I confess the paper is actually designed for a children's nursery. I love it and I think that the message I'm sharing here is nothing is really off limits if it makes you smile 😊
I also commissioned my friend's company to build fitted wardrobes. This was a challenging project, because there is not a single straight or square wall in our 200 year old home!
I chose my friend's company because they have a fantastic reputation for quality and are very experienced when it comes to bespoke projects. They also installed our kitchen (which I will share in a future blog) so I knew I could entrust the project to them.
They did not disappoint. I love the finish and the amount of storage contained inside! I was concerned about the wardrobes looking disjointed because of the window in the middle of the wall, and they suggested a small vanity table to connect them. I think it looks fantastic and it has turned out to be very practical.
The finishing touches will continue to evolve I'm sure, but for now, I am really really happy with this room. Our bedroom at night is now a relaxing and soothing place to be.
After all our hard work!
